Professor Augenbroe received his academic degree in civil engineering from TU Delft in the Netherlands in 1975. During the first part of his career in he pioneered a commercial finite element toolbox for building simulation and managed large EU funded projects on engineering interoperability and semantic product models, most notably the COMBINE project (1990-1995). Since 1997 he advises the Building Technology track in the Doctoral Program in the College of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the USA. He holds honorary visiting professor positions at Newcastle University and Loughborough University in the UK. Augenbroe teaches graduate courses and conducts research in the fields of building performance concepts and simulation, control of smart systems, building monitoring and diagnostics. Recently he has also established an active research record in web hosted collaboration and knowledge management, dealing with the development of software tools and their business integration.
Professor Augenbroe is on the scientific board of five international journals, is American co-editor of one journal and has published close to 100 refereed papers. He has chaired three major conferences and delivered 5 keynote lectures at international conferences. He is an active member of 5 CIB working groups and partner in the EU funded PeBBu (Performance Based Building) thematic network.
